Siam University Grade Point Average (GPA) Explanation

I. What is GPA?

GPA is the Grade Point Average (GPA), which is simply a student's school grade point average. The GPA is based on a student's solid professional knowledge, potential academic ability, and attitude toward learning, and is a requirement for graduation.

Many students believe that a high midterm or final exam means that they are good at their studies, so they spend a lot of time preparing for standardized exams and neglect their daily school studies.

Why do foreign universities place so much importance on GPA? Because your GPA is the best indicator of your true academic ability. A high standardized score only means that you are doing well in the context of "testing" and that you "know how to test" and "have mastered testing skills". However, a high GPA is not something that can be obtained by repeated practice, it reflects your continuous effort in the course of study and is the most stable quality that a good college student should have.

Moreover, your GPA should not only be high, but preferably show a continuous upward trend. If the curve of your score change is upward, it means you are getting more and more diligent and self-driven to study; if the curve is downward, then the university will re-examine your ability and even doubt your study focus and study attitude.

II. How to calculate GPA

Siam University uses an A-F grading system. This is a more detailed and friendly scale, which results in a relatively higher GPA.

Grade Score GPA
A 80-100 4.0
B+ 75-79 3.5
B 70-74 3.0
C+ 65-69 2.5
C 60-64 2.0
D+ 55-59 1.5
D 50-54 1.0
F 0-49 0

The formula for calculating the total GPA is: Total GPA = Sum of individual course GPAs / Total number of courses

Assume you have five regular courses, two of which have A's and three of which have B's. Against the table above, two A's will each convert to 4.0 and three B's will each convert to 3.0. then the final GPA = (4.0 + 4.0 + 3.0 + 3.0 + 3.0) / 5 = 3.4.

III. GPA Requirements

When a student's overall GPA is below the school's minimum requirement for graduation, the student will be required to retake courses in which he or she has a lower GPA.

Bachelor - overall GPA must be at least 2.0 and F must be retaken.

Master and Doctor - must have an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher, D+,D,F must be retaken.
